We are very friendly!

Neither Dino or Bronson have an aggressive bone in their body. However, a simple leash is all it takes and they turn into Cujo. When they are on leash and see another dog on leash (it doesn't matter if its a pitbull or a toy poodle) they growl and the hair stands up on their backs. You would think they are going to tear apart the other dog apart.
I hope other dog owners understand this (because its embarrassing  especially when they pick up their dog in fear of Dino and Bronson!)I'm open for any dog whisperer type advice!!

  1. My dog is the friendliest 8 yrs old lab mix and I have witnessed this with my own dog over the past 2 years, even when approaching her own sister one day. Once she was unleashed, they played like puppies. As dogs get older, they start to become very protective and on guard when they are put on their leash. They also feel the tension in the leash because the owner tightens up on the leash anticipating what is about to occur. On an episode of the dog whisperer, he actually suggests using more of a command and keeping the leash loose in your hand. This way the dogs senses are more calm while crossing paths with another dog. It has helped loosening up on the leash but still I am afraid and I think the dog senses it. My Shadow is a 100lbs and I would never be able to hold her back.I try to use baby talk to let her know I am not afraid. On the other hand, the other dog walkers are thinking, "what the ruff"?
